The program is focused on energy startups about solutions for clients and smart data.
EDP Starter Brasil, an EDP acceleration program in partnership with Kyvo, has selected five startups to be catalyzed by December. In total, the program had 300 startups registered, all of which 30 were interviewed, ten took part in a bootcamp and presented a Pitch Fest for six evaluators. The evaluators were Hilton Menezes, Kyvo´s founder-partner, Lívia Brando, innovation head at EDP Brasil, Carlos Andrade, vice-president of new businesses Development at EDP Brasil, Luis Manuel, innovation head, Jorge Simões, smart data specialist and Tiago Antunes, Senior Engineer, at EDP Portugal innovation.
The program is focused on two types of energy startups: solutions for clients and smart data, below, find it in alphabetical order:
Cartão Solar: enables all sources of renewable energy, creating a national networking in solar energy.
Cubi: management of energy consumption to the industry, low costs and cloud platform.
Dooak: collective investment and blockchain transactions in high-impact solar energy projects.
Enercred: promotes sustainability for consumers of electric energy. It democratizes the access of renewable energy in an economic way.
Nexo: virtual reality simulator which reduces costs and accidents in the workplace.
The selected startups still have four months of guidance by their mentors and could receive investments from EDP Brasil. After all, will be organized a Demo Day, where five selected startups will present their solutions to the market.
Brando guarantees that this program provides opportunities to startups in their phase of ‘seed and development’. Many consider this phase to be the riskiest in the entire lifecycle, which may be the most important moment in their business cycle. Beyond that, there is a possibility of a second edition of this program to include an incubation period in Silicon Valley. Kyvo in partnership with GSVLabs could make it happen.
Half of the startups were able to make it. Although, that doesn’t mean the end of the relation with EDP Brasil. Lívia Brando says that it still has a plenty of opportunity: “We have encourage them to register at the Open Innovation – acceleration program in development focused on energy -, it is time to register. Five startups could go to Lisbon to compete and receive 50,000 Euros and then, go to Web Summit”.
